Planet Volt — Designing a B2B Mobile App for Solar Sales Reps in the Field

Planet Volt's field sales team was losing deals to paperwork. No structured way to log clients, track reps, or report submissions — everything was manual, slow, and scattered. I had 7 days to fix it.

The Challenge

The Challenge

Two very different users. One app.

Sales reps needed to move fast — collecting client information, uploading photos, and logging submissions while on the go, often outdoors under harsh light. Every extra tap was friction they couldn't afford.

Owners needed the opposite — a clear, structured overview of rep activity, submissions, and performance without digging through noise.

Designing for both without compromising either was the central challenge.

What I Did

What I Did

I started by walking through every screen with one question in mind: what's the fastest way for each user to complete their most important task?
That question shaped every decision. I simplified the data collection forms to feel lightweight rather than clinical. I designed role-based dashboards so each user landed exactly where they needed to be. And I prioritised clarity and accessibility throughout — high contrast, readable typography, and clean layouts that held up in bright outdoor conditions where most reps would be working.
Scalability was also built in from the start. Planet Volt is early stage — the structure needed to support features they hadn't built yet without the design falling apart.

What I Learned

What I Learned

Designing for field workers taught me that accessibility isn't a checklist — it's a design condition. When your user is standing outside in the sun trying to log a client detail, clarity isn't a nice to have. It's the whole product.
